Corso Umberto I, is the main street of Taormina, in
Sicily, starts and ends with two arches, Porta Catania
and Porta Messina. A few steps from Continental Hotel is
situated Porta Catania, also nominated as Porta Tocco.
The origin of this name is from Norman period, when at
midday, (the Tocco Hour) they used to have public
meeting. This arch Represent the north entrance of the
town, it is close to the car parking Porta Catania and
piazza Duomo. |
